Track and Field teams finish strong in San Mateo

The Modesto Junior College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Bob Rush State Meet in San Mateo on Saturday, March 17.
The competition was fierce in every event, especially with teams from Sacramento City and Fresno City Colleges.
Success was a big part of the day all around for both squads.
On the men's side, Modesto's Michael Mok finished in fifth place in the 100 (Heat One) with a time of 11.99.
In the Heat Eight event, Marquell Colston, who is also a star on the Pirate's football team, placed seventh with a time of 11.35.
In Heat Three, Amarinder Bhatia finished with a time of 25.33 which was good enough for sixth.
Joseph Turner, MJC's leading runner on the men's side, took first place in the Heat Four event with an outstanding time of 48.31.
McDouglas Perez finished in a strong second place in Heat One, barely being edged out by Santa Rosa's top runner. In Heat Four, Kevin Cooper nearly ended in first place but had to settle for second behind Lucas Liu of San Francisco City College.
The men's relay team finished third place in the 4 times 100 event, and in second in the 4 times 400 relay.
On the women's side, Savannah Anderson placed fifth in the Heat Four competition, recording a time of 12.52.
In Heat One, Modesto's Brittnie Cooksey finished with a time of 28.32, which earned her fourth place.
In Heat Two, LaBritt Whitehead nearly took first, but settled for third with a time of 59.82.
Jodie Leal, Modesto's leading runner on the women's side, snatched second place in Heat Two with a remarkable time of 2.34.
The men and women will take their efforts to the Sacramento State Open on Saturday, March 24 at 9 a.m.
After the Sacramento State Open, Modesto will host the MJC Invitational on Saturday, March 31 beginning at 7 a.m.
The Ed Adams Invitational will be held at Hartnell College on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7.
Also, on Saturday, April 6, MJC will send a select group of runners to the Stanislaus State Invitational.
The track and field teams are in the midst of another successful season, but there is still several meets left to compete in.
On the men's side, Turner has been the shining star and on the women's side Jodie Leal continues her consistency in every race.
The teams are mentally and physically preparing for the Northern California Combined Championships in Santa Rosa on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 17-18.
The Chabot College Invitational and Woody Wilson Invitational will also be chances for the two teams to showcase their talents.
These two meets are scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at Chabot College and at UC Davis. The CVC Champiosnhips are about a month away, and they will be held at College of Seqouias.
