To the Editor,

This letter is in response to the article "Why Not a Woman President?" (Mar.9, 2006)

I believe that women are perfectly capable "of obtaining a victory" such as the Presidency. Like the author said, "it has been proven" that throughout history, women are not "weak" but are intelligent and capable. So where's the conflict? Society may have "long promoted" this idea of a woman's inferiority, but since when has this been an issue?

Our society has worked very hard and has been successful to supply everyone with equality. This "macho thinking" the author presents is outdated. I believe the examples of successful women we have today has long put this type of thinking to rest. I don't believe the idea of a woman as our nation's president is an issue of intelligence or ability any longer but rather of moral conviction or even preference. New ways of thinking typically take some time for the masses to embrace.

The author's example of single moms raising and supporting their children gives light to two sides of an issue. Not only does it show the selfishness of the father, but also the poor choice of the mother. A single parent mother making ends meet does not emanate and an ideal condition especially for the child. I do admire the mothers who do pull through and support their families, but let us not equate that to a nation that is not fatherless.
