Dr. Jim Beggs, English professor and co-director of the Shakespeare Academy, is sponsoring Curtain Time in London, a tour to England. The tour group will depart May 29 and return June 5. Interested students and faculty members will get the opportunity to visit historical sites such as Big Ben, Picadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, a tour of the Globe Theatre, and a theater workshop. Although a Shakespeare play isn't included in the package, Beggs is trying to arrange for one.

In an extra excursion, which is included in the package, the traveling group will have the opportunity to visit ivy-draped Oxford, a mecca of learning for over 800 years. Renowned poets, prime ministers and presidents are among the scholars who have been educated within these ancient stone buildings. And last, travelers will also get the opportunity to visit Stratford, Shakespeare's birthplace and deathbed.

The price for students under 23 years of age is under $1800. The price for other people (students over 23 and adults) is now about $1816. The price covers the trip to London, hotel accommodations, entry fees to the museums and to the Globe Theatre, two West End musicals, breakfasts and dinners.

The tour company (Education First) has other payment options for students who want to go, but think they can't afford to. One option is fundraising. The other option is in the form of a discount. For every five travelers, a sixth will pay nothing. Nevertheless, the savings would be re-distributed among the six travelers. As the number of participants increases, so do the savings. Because the deadline to apply has already expired, there will be a $95.00 late fee charge.

"This trip will be a lifetime experience. If you are a student of history and literature, you would be fascinated by it," Beggs said. Guy Van Cleave, who is a biology professor and one of several MJC professors who will be going on the trip said, "If you like to travel in the summer, this is your opportunity to expand your horizons."

Those interested in the trip can contact Beggs at 575-6164 or 523-9455 for additional information, or swing by his office for a brochure at room 226P in Founders Hall. Those interested can also access the web at www.eftours.com/pbsuk.
