Modesto Junior College Geotripper

Garry Hayes, the epitome of a geologist, has taught at Modesto Junior College since 1988. His classroom, filled with case after case of rocks and gemstones, fault line maps, seismographs, charts and a multitude of geology paraphernalia, is only a miniscule example of the history and excitement he has brought to the students throughout his tenure. Dinosaur bone discoveries and excavation, trips to Death Valley, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Australia are among the many adventures his students have experienced throughout the years.

That’s when it happened.      About three weeks ago, I opened up my e-mail and scrolled down and the last show on the list was coming to VH1 involving competing for the love of Chad Ochocinco, the star wide-receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals. Everyone who knows me knows that I have the biggest crush on Ochocinco. 'Growing Up in Someone Else's Shoes'

Sam Pierstorff'snew book a hilarious and emotional victory

I recently added a new book to my collection. It’s a small tome, but filled with enough wit, humor and emotion to keep any avid poetry lover entertained for years. Professor Sam Pierstorff’s first published book of poetry, “Growing Up in Someone Else’s Shoes,” is nothing short of a triumph. Although some of the poems have been published individually or performed at the poetry slams that Pierstorff hosts, the work as a whole was introduced to the Modesto Junior College community on the evening of March 11 at a reading and book signing event hosted by the Literature and Language Arts Division.
