Students and community members gathered Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. on the West campus to watch the groundbreaking ceremony for Modesto Junior College’s (MJC) new Allied Health Building.
The new building is part of campus-wide improvements funded by the $326 million Measure E bond, which was granted to the college by voters in November of 2004.
YCCD Trustee Anne DiMartini recognized this. “The people that made this possible are the taxpayers of the Yosemite Community College District,” she said.
According to Dr. Maurice McKinnon, Dean of the Allied Health Division, “Our new facility and its state-of-the-art equipment will help us continue in our legacy of training highly-qualified health care professionals.”
The Allied Health Building, to be constructed between Yosemite Hall and the soccer field on MJC’s West Campus, will house the training programs for nursing, medical assisting and dental assisting. Nurses will train in a simulated hospital environment for more in-depth training.
According to Dr. Roe Darnell, YCCD Chancellor, “This is going to be an exceptional facility.”
The estimated completion date for the project is April 2011.
