The University of Florida has been a college football powerhouse for the last 4 years under Head Coach Urban Meyer. With Meyer at the helm, Florida has a 54-9 record, two National Championships, 4 bowl games (3-1), and two Southeastern Conference [SEC] titles. This year, Meyer was name The Sporting News Coach of the Decade. He has everything a college coach would want, especially playing in the toughest, most televised conference, the SEC. What more could he want, a job at Notre Dame for crying out loud?
Don’t laugh too hard. Reports have it that Urban Meyer is looking into making the move to the highly criticized position of Head Coach at the University of Notre Dame. Charlie Weiss is currently the Head Coach at Notre Dame, but with the same winning percentage and record as the two previous coaches (Ty Willingham, Bob Davie), he could be out the door the minute the season ends. So what is in it for Meyer to leave Notre Dame, besides a nice, fat paycheck?
Nothing. While TV’s talking heads say Florida as a team is declining, why would he go to Notre Dame, a school who could lose starting quarterback Jimmy Clauson and wide receiver Golden Tate by the end of this year? Then by the time Meyer gets his own recruiting class in, Notre Dame will already have been losing, they will fire Meyer and the cycle repeats. Meyer needs to stay at Florida, rough it out the year after the mainstay quarterback Tim Tebow leaves, and be patient for his next recruiting class, which shouldn’t be a problem. Just shine those two championship rings at ‘em coach.
