Reel Rants

Bad children’s book adaptations (focus on live action)

Hello Hollywood. Did you miss me? You must be starting to listen to me, since today I’m actually happy with you for two straight weekends. You actually went and did something right for a change. Your adaptations of Where the Wild Things Are and The Vampires Assistant made me smile. It made me giddy. It made my inner child a hyper second grader on a sugar rush. It reminded me why I go to films. To be amazed, elated and taken away from all the worlds’ ills and negativity.

A hitch in the trailer

Hello Hollywood! This week as you can tell we saw The Men who Stare at Goats and once again you have irritated me. You see Tinseltown, I was expecting a gut busting 90 minutes that told a great anecdotal story. What I got was a slightly depressing new age drama that would have been enjoyed better being hopped up on drugs with a bad case of the munchies. The reason I expected tons of laughter? The trailer. It was great. It sold me on seeing your film, which was a mistake. Hollywood, it’s time for me to remind you what trailers are really about.

2012: A Eulogy for the World

[Spoken in Eulogy]

Dearly beloved; we are gathered here today to witness the end of the world, at least how Hollywood sees it. As we look upon the departed dead we see them covered in scraps of celluloid from disaster films of the past with flakes of this latest tragedy of cinema, 2012.

Canned Romance

Tired of Hollywood’s version of romance? Well so am I.

If Hollywood just would take a step back and show what real relationships are like it might just realize what they are really about.
