So, every year around this time, we turn on the T.V. and notice that we can't watch a half hour program without being reminded that Halloween is coming. Whether it's the stores trying to get you to buy candy or the films that are being released, Halloween enthusiasm is unavoidable (by the way have you guys seen the Saw 84 trailer?).
Speaking of movies, the staff of the Pirates Log compiled a list of the 10 MUST WATCH horror films. Cuddle up with that special someone, lock the doors, and prepare to pee your pants.
10. The Friday the 13th Series -
A boy Named Jason Voorhees drowns at Camp Crystal Lake when his counselors were supposed to be watching. He then comes back…and back…and BACK….for revenge on everybody there.
9. Chucky -
An evil possessed doll goes on a killing rampage. This one will have you tossing out every Barbie and G.I. Joe you have in your house.
8. Poltergeist -
A family is visited by ghosts in their new home. At first, the ghosts appear friendly… until the raw steak on the kitchen counter starts “walking” and the television "kidnaps" their daughter. Never mind toxic mortgages: this will scare you away from ANY real estate deal
7. The Exorcist -
A story about the devil possession and the subsequent exorcism of the demonic spirits from a young, innocent girl. A horror film NOT for the young at heart.
6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre -
With a mask made out of human skin and a chainsaw-wielding human freak chasing you, this one is sure to scare you every time you watch.
5. Nightmare on Elm Street -
1, 2, Freddy’s coming for you. After seeing this movie, you won't sleep without thinking of that Red and Black sweater.
4. Psycho -
An Alfred Hitchcock classic whose name says it all. Hey, what do you call a path leading up to a psycho's house? Answer: Psychopath!
3. Halloween -
Serial killer Michael Myers goes on a murder spree on a quest to find his missing younger sister. You’ll never look at hockey masks the same way again.
2. The Shining -
A chilling thriller about a writer who takes a job as the caretaker for an empty hotel during the winter season. Hallucinations and insanity overtake the man who turns on his family. It’s Jack Nicholson in one of his greatest roles, sure to scare you silly.
1. Silence of the Lambs -
A cannibalistic serial killer, Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), is interviewed by an FBI agent (Jodie Foster) in an attempt to catch another killer. It’s one of the scariest movies of ALL TIME, By far.

Texas Chainsaw is another one I have to disagree with. It is scary the first time you watch it, but it isn't horrifying, and I don't think it really deserves to be on the list. The movie was, more than anything, just a blood fest, and watching it the second time around just made it look silly and cheaply budgeted. Movies that I think should be on the list are ones such as "The Unborn," "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "Darkness falls," and "The Uninvited." I find that the scariest of movies are the ones that are strictly psychological. They get in your head and make you really pay attention and follow the story. When a movie makes you really focus and think about what is happening, that is when you are going to be scared for a few days, rather than just through the end credits.
