"Amen," shouted a man from the back row as the California State University Stanislaus (Stan State) Concert Chorale powerfully performed at the Fall Sing at Modesto Junior College on Wednesday, Nov 4.
The Fall Sing is an annual event that features Modesto, Turlock and Ceres School Choirs, as well as colleges such as MJC and Stan State.
The choirs performed from Modesto, Ceres, Downey, Enochs, Turlock, Pitman, and Johansen high schools.
Each ensemble sang an average of two pieces. Some choirs chose traditional material such as "Lacrimosa" by Mozart, while others chose more contemporary constructions such as "We will rock you" by Queen. Surprisingly the Mozart piece received better appraise from the audience.
The majority of high school choirs were on their way to excellence despite a few minor mishaps with timing, pitch, harmony, octave change and overall strength.
The crowd really roared with the MJC performance, conducted by part time director Richard Colla. Their material was both contemporary and traditional with exceptional style and excellent vocals with passionate solos.
Upcoming Performances will be November 12 for the High school Orchestra day at 9:30 a.m. and a Jazz Band Performance is scheduled for November 23 at 7:30 p.m. both in the MJC Auditorium.
