New ASMJC President, Douglas Dyrssen

All the votes are accounted for and the new student government has been chosen. Every year Modesto Junior College holds student elections for the Associated Students of MJC. Each term lasts for one full school year and follows certain guidelines emplaced by MJC. Each student running for office has to have and maintain a 2.3 gpa in order to run. The results are in and here are the newly elected ASMJC officials:

ASMJC President, Douglas Dyrssen; Vice President of the Senate, Kevin Sabo; Vice President of ICC, James Varble; Director of Political Events, Mike Sharif; Director of Events, Lia Vele; Treasurer, Robin Jones; and Secretary, Robin Zamini

Senators that have been elected are: Jonathan Homrighausen, Luz Martinez, Paige Jenkins, Katy Mlady, Diana Reyes, Christina Kim, C. Wagner, Kathryn Cederlind and Mauricio Ocegueda.

One of the goals expressed by new student government president Douglas Dyrssen for the ASMJC office at the start of the new term is to "bridge the gap" between students and faculty.

"We want better communication between the President and Vice President of the college, MJC Faculty Senate, YCCD Board, and our office to make sure that students and faculty are on the same page," said Dyrssen. "Our main goal is to develop a better campus life for the students."

Since only 300 students participated in the election resulting in a 1.5 % voter turnout, current ASMJC officials decided unanimously to hold a special election, to hold the vote again. However, MJC administrators indicated that this special election would not be recognised by the college.

All newly elected officials begin their terms during the summer semester.
